who is RICQUO MIGUEL JONES?

I had the chance to sit down with mr. freshman forever himself, Everett Miguel Young, alias Ricquo Miguel Jones. We had a nice little conversation and with that, went straight to business. Ricquo seemed a bit surpirsed that i had one of his singles "Backseat Latte" playing from my laptop in my room; it almost seemed to me that he was shocked in some sort of way. But hey, i gotta support my peers and especially native rappers, especially to get the flow of things going. I started asking him about what the song was about and such, in an interview format of course.

Me: Out of all the songs out there right now, what made you wanna do a remake of Erykah Badu's [Window Seat] ?

RJ: Well, see the whole point of the record was to kinda lighten and set the mood. Whenever i hear the song, i think of like this coffee shop in upper Manhattan, NY and such. And also there's just this natural cool feel to it.

Me: Explain the term "Freshman Forever" ?

RJ: For the mixtape i basically wanted to commemorate my freshman year of high school and my freshman year of college; to me, those first years represent transition, and you also have the most fun those years. It's just one of those "getting to know yourself" stages that i believe everyone goes through. And those memories from freshman year [good, or bad] live on with you forever.

Me: I was watching one of your previous interviews on youtube and something you said stuck out to me. "Don't be afraid to let others help you. I wanna branch out and i don't wanna be like everyone else." Explain that quote.

RJ: I feel like i am the voice for the average person. I mean i am a regular guy. I like clothes and shopping; but music is what i do. How i think as an person allows me to relate to my fans and peer on an artist- base; and i that is important. I have a lot of influences and i always take in everything that i hear because you never know what you're going to need it for. Positive criticism is my best friend.

Me: Adding on to the previous question, who would you say are your influences and why?

RJ: Definitely Drake, MJ, Wale, and Lupe [to name some]. Another one of influences was actually personal. I knew this one guy named Magiver back from Mo City. I learned a great deal from him and he was like a black Eminem, in many aspects. He really took me to the next level. Also, Dave Tate [singer and producer of Darkskin]. Old school like Slum Village and Big L.

Me: Ahhhh, and now for the good part. WHO IS ricquo miguel jones?

RJ: My real name is Everrett Miguel Jones. My personality sets me more as a settle, subtle, conservative person. I have this chill and laid back demeanor. As far as my stage name Ricquo Miguel, well he's more of a "in your face" type guy and such; center of attention and basically just someone who does things for shock value. He's like my evil twin [laughs].

kodaks.

Future of RJ: Dakota Black collabs, Purple Hollywood Clothing- The Documentary, Last Rebel Showcase, Album Release Party Coming in November, so stay tuned for that. Nicely Outfitted "Big T is a very creative guy. He is a silent weapon; very talented guy. La Vita, Skinny Guy Clothing. NasaClub.
Influences: Drake, MJ, Wale, Lupe, Slum Village and Big L.

"I just wish that people in Houston could be together and support one another. Then we will go much further than we already are."
